Amazon reveals drone that will deliver within half an hour
The Amazon Drone Promise
Amazon has unveiled the latest prototype drone that will deliver orders through its Prime Air service. The video highlights the fact that delivery takes about 30 minutes.
According to data released on Sunday by the online retail giant, Amazon says drones weigh 24kg and can carry packages weighing up to 2.2kg. The drones fly below 120m and use a special sensor to deflect potential obstacles in the way of their destination of delivery.
New Way To Deliver
“We are testing various vehicle models and delivery mechanisms to find out how best to deliver the packages in a variety of environments,” says an Amazon statement. “We have more than a dozen prototypes that we have developed in our research and development labs. The look and features of the vehicles will evolve over time. ”
Other companies are also exploring the drones as a new method of package delivery. Earlier this month, Walmart asked permission from the FAA to begin testing a drone. Google has also revealed during a air traffic control convention in Washington that they want to launch a drone service in 2017.
